Due to ceramics glossy finish, this sealant will not work as well as it would on glass, metal, plastic and rubber. Furthermore, the use of cleaning products could cause wear to the sealant.

Question

Metal lids

I keep filtered water in glass jars in the fridge. The metal lids eventually start rusting because of the constant moisture. Is this product suitable to coat the inside of the metal lids? I know it's food grade (which is great), but I'm concerned about the product wearing off each time I twist the lids on and off. If this product is not suitable, do you have another one that is? Thank you!

I would not recommend this sealant for that type of use. I have attached the Material Safety Data sheet to the "learn more" tab if you are interested.

I would recommend getting plastic lids or some other metal that will not rust.

Question

I need to make a food grade silicone stopper that are for large canisters, will this work?

The stopper would be about 3" in the bottom, graduated to 3.75" at the top and about 4 inches in height. Big ones. I have a mold to make these that silicone doesn't adhere to (smooth wax). Will this product work in this situation? Can I do this in a single cure? How long do you think it will take to cure?
Thoughts and recommendations are most welcome!

Thanks for your help!

To answer your question, not really. That's not the intended use of this product. Though it may survive in the dishwasher, this caulk wasn't designed for your intended application, so there is really no way to tell if it's officially "dishwasher safe."

This sealant should work just fine.

It is listed under NSF Standard 51 for use on all types of Food Contact Zones.

Operating temperature range is -76°F to 392°F, so 170°F should not be an issue.

The ph level should not be an issue as this is an acetoxy-cure silicone which already has a slightly acidic ph.
