Can the U220HA, adjustable legs be taking off in order to lower the overall height?

Yes the legs are removable. I would not recommend operating the machine without legs or at least with shorter legs in order to allow ventilation in and around the machine. When the machine is producing ice it tends to expel quite a bit of heat and without proper air flow it may produce low quality ice and or damage components and void warranties.
